University Professor for Combustion
Technology in Aerospace Engineering (W3)
with a position at the University of Stuttgart with a reduced teaching assignment (2 SWS) and academic leave of absence (the "Jülicher Modell") at the DLR in Stuttgart as
Director of the Institute of Combustion Technology
The DLR Institute of Combustion Technology, with its around one hundred employees, performs research and development in the fields of combustion in load and fuel flexible gas turbine combustion chambers, future fuels and power plant concepts based on micro gas turbines, supported by further development and application of detailed numerical simulations as well as experimental examinations of the combustion processes. The whole scope from the physical-chemical basics to the complete technical system is successively covered.
The focus of the teaching and research at the Institute of Combustion Technology for Aerospace Engineering at the University of Stuttgart is on the development of design principles for gas turbines, aircraft engines and rocket combustion chambers. Numeric simulation of the combustion process in real combustion chambers and the development of laser optical measurement methods are at the foreground of the activities.
We are looking for a responsible dynamic leadership personality with multi-annual leadership experience and demonstrable international expertise, ideally in several of the mentioned fields, e.g. combustion chamber design, competency in gas turbine systems, modern methods of combustion diagnostics or optical methods, or fuels. We expect a willingness to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis with partners inside and outside the DLR and the University of Stuttgart and to be involved in national and international networks. Several years of work in the industry and the ability to speak German are desired. We furthermore expect very good didactic abilities and engagement in teaching and academic self-administration.
