at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research


Reference number: 11640

The Institute for Statistics and Operation Research of the University of Vienna is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a joint project with Moritz Jirak, Tatyana Krivobokova and Lukas Steinberger. The project is motived by a biophysical application and aims to develop and to study classification methods for high-dimensional dependent data with extremely unbalanced classes. The position is available immediately for three years with the possibility of extension for another three years. For more information about the project, please contact Tatyana Krivobokova.



Duration of employment: 3 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will join the faculty and participate in the department’s research, teaching (to the extent regulated by the collective bargaining agreement), and administrative activities. In particular, the candidate is expected to participate in research projects leading to international publications and presentations.


Profile:
• a Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related discipline (completed or pending completion)
• a strong background in mathematical statistics and probability theory
• promising potential for original high-level research
• proficiency in written and spoken Englisch


In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have

• publications in relevant high-ranked journals
• experience of working in interdisciplinary projects and complex data analysis
• (e-)teaching experience
