University Assistant (must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree) for a full-time, six-year position at the Institute of Computational Perception

Job Duties:

  • Conduct independent research in the fields of recommender systems, information retrieval, web/social media mining, multimedia, machine learning, user modelling, and/or human-computer interaction
  • Publish and disseminate research findings (in journals and at conferences)
  • Actively take part in the institute’s fund-raising endeavours
  • Actively take part in joint scientific and industrial partnership projects
  • Independently hold university-level courses in accordance with the collective agreement
  • Assist with educational and administration tasks at the institute
  • Co-supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students, and Ph.D. candidates
  • Actively take part in academic administration (e.g. as part of selection committees for professorship positions, etc.)

Your Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Physics, or Psychology
  • Extensive expertise and professional experience in a minimum of one of the following fields (preferably several): recommender systems, information retrieval, web/social media mining, natural language processing, multimedia, machine/deep learning, user modelling, human-computer interaction, algorithmic fairness, or transparency
  • Strong publication record (in relation to “academic age”)
  • Commitment, creativity, ability and aspirations to independently conduct scientific work as well as pursue publication and dissemination activities
  • Proficiency in English (written and oral) – level C1+ 
  • Proficiency in German (level B1) (those not proficient in German should demonstrate a willingness to learn and/or improve their German language skills)
  • Ability and willingness to independently teach university-level courses and supervise students majoring in the fields mentioned above
  • A strong set of social skills
  • Ideally, experience in procuring external funding as well as executing and administrating international partnership projects

  • On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 4,061.50 gross per month (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
