Tübingen AI Center
Universität Tübingen
Two positions of Full Professor (W3) of Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems
The
Tübingen AI Center invites applications for two full professorial positions in machine learning and intelligent systems, to start as of the next possible date. The position is tenured, and we also welcome applications from candidates seeking affiliation with the newly created ELLIS Research Institute. We are looking for candidates at various levels of experience.
The Tübingen AI Center aims at building learning systems that are safe, robust, and benefit society. Going beyond the limitations of today's learning algorithms, we envision broad advances in numerous aspects of intelligence including learning, causal reasoning, commonsense understanding, as well as interaction with humans, networks, markets, and society at large. We encourage applications in all areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related disciplines.
The
Tübingen AI Center is a joint research hub between the
University of Tübingen and the
Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Embedded in
Tübingen's rapidly growing science and technology campus, the center maintains close links to
ELLIS, a Europe-wide research network in machine learning, as well as to the
Cyber Valley initiative that connects researchers with startups and industry in the area. The center is home to
fourteen faculty at the full professor level, a number that will increase by ten more over the next five years with an ambition to increase the diversity of the team.
We seek internationally renowned candidates, advancing compelling long-term research agendas that complement and extend existing expertise (applications should explicitly articulate how the candidate extends and complements the existing capability in Tübingen). In the case of a parallel offer from the newly created ELLIS Research Institute, we plan to optimally coordinate the offers.
Applicants will be assessed against the prospects for further growth in scientific excellence, based in part on past scientific contributions and the novelty, creativity and uniqueness of their research vision.
Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral qualifications and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship. Teaching and research are conducted in English.
The University of Tübingen is committed to equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. Female scientists, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
