Tenured Professorship in Ancient History

The successful applicant will cover the area named above in research and teaching.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act
Candidates will have a research focus in Classical Antiquity. We are looking for a candidate
with teaching experience in an international environment and an excellent track record of
research activities. Additionally, she or he is expected to have experience in acquiring and
leading externally funded research projects.
Apart from the official duties of the appointee in accordance with Article 99 of the Berlin
Higher Education Act, we expect him or her to engage in the following activities:
She or he will actively engage in existing and future joint research projects at Freie
Universität Berlin as well as other internal or external institutions connected to antiquity
research in Berlin. She or he is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues of the
Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies and to address gender and diversity
issues relevant to the field in research and teaching.
Applications should include a CV, copies of all certificates of academic qualification in
German or English; if applicable the letter of appointment (please add translations if
needed), a list of publications, a list of courses previously taught, and evidence of teaching
competence. Furthermore, please include information on involvement in ongoing and future
research endeavours, joint research projects and externally funded projects, and if
necessary language certificates. If applicable for the respective content area, please give
information on industrial cooperation, inventions/patents and spin-offs.
