The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. The ZEW is a non-profit organization and works in the field of frontier empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. The ZEW is looking to fill the following position in the Junior Research Group Competition and Innovation within the Research Department Economics of Innovation and Firm Dynamics:
Tenure-Track Researcher (PhD) (100 %, f/m/d) Competition and Innovation
We seek to hire an applied economist with a research interest in the fields of competition economics or innovation economics. The junior research group covers a range of topics at the competition-innovation nexus, including the relationship between minority shareholdings, cartels, as well as innovation, the estimation of price margins and their connection with firm-level innovation and productivity, competition issues arising from technology standardization, and the role of (data) privacy and trade secrecy policy.
The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of theory and quantitative methods in an industrial organization context, excellent writing skills and a strong interest in economic policy analysis in Europe.
The position is suitable for researchers who have completed or are about to complete their PhD in economics. Candidates will contribute to and shape the evolving research agenda of the group. They aim for excellent academic publications in leading journals. They are comfortable with communicating their scientific findings to the public and advising policymakers based on their expertise.
We are looking for candidates with the ability to work independently within a team, good organisational and excellent oral and written expression skills. There is no obligation to teach, but possibilities to acquire teaching experience exist. The candidates should be interested in conceptualizing and managing third party-financed research projects. Fluency in English is required; command of German is not necessary but will be helpful.
We offer a full-time, tenure-track position for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension for another three years. Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale and its associated public sector benefits.
