As part of the federal and state program for the advancement of junior scholars, Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty V, currently has a vacancy at the Institute of Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) for a

tenure track professorship, remuneration group W1, fixed term, to be continued as a lifetime professorship, remuneration group W3

in "Machines and Technology for Additive Manufacturing of precise Metallic Components“.

This professorship should be seen in the context of Technische Universität Berlin’s goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is initially limited to three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon the postholder’s performance and agreement. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong professorship will be offered conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. Working field: Perform research and teaching (German and English language) in the field of additive manufacturing of precise metallic components. The task of the professorship to be filled is the development of machine tools and dedicated technology for additive manufacturing of precision metallic components with respect to innovative process chains. Here, a holistic approach for additive manufacturing processes concerning the many and various correlations between process design, machine tool, process control, geometry, precision post-machining, process and production measurement technology and the resulting component characteristics in established and new developed technologies is of particular importance. The consideration of the additive manufacturing process chain with regard to further processing by precision mechanical cutting and non-conventional technologies as well as the influence on the component and the measurement technology will also be subject of the professorship. Curriculum development and participation in collaborative research and academic committees are also part of the responsibilities.
Requirements: Candidates must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section 102c Berlin State Higher Education Act in combination with Section 102a Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Technology, a strong aptitude for research demonstrated, as a rule, by an outstanding doctorate as well as teaching skills demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for further information about the portfolio, see Technische Universität Berlin’s website). The future holder of the position is expected to have proven scientific knowledge in the above-mentioned field from fundamental or applied research. Furthermore, above-average research and publication achievements, successful acquisition of third-party or industrial funding, as well as a high relevance to the application-relevant problems and challenges in the field of additive manufacturing of precise metal components would be beneficial. Moreover, applicants should have presentation experience at prestigious international conferences. Likewise, experience in the implementation of national and international third-party funded and industrial projects should be available. Initial teaching experience provides a solid foundation. Gender and diversity competence as well as engagement in science communication and knowledge and/or technology transfer complete your profile. For non-German speaking applicants, a commitment to learn German quickly is expected. A very good knowledge of English is desirable.
