As part of the federal and state program for the advancement of junior scholars, Technische Universität Berlin – Faculty VI Planning Building Environment – Institute of Civil Engineering, currently has a vacancy for a
tenure track professorship, remuneration group W1, fixed term, to be continued as a lifetime professorship, remuneration group W3,
in “Robot-Assisted Manufacturing of the Built Environment”.
This professorship should be seen in the context of Technische Universität Berlin’s goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the very early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is initially limited to three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon the postholder’s performance and agreement. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong professorship will be offered conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. We are looking for a junior researcher who, based on the previous research and/or professional activities, has outstanding technical competence in the research and implementation of automated manufacturing processes. The responsibilities of a W1 professorship include suitable participation in the training of bachelor’s and master’s civil engineering students and research with a particular focus on automated robot-assisted construction methods, such as additive manufacturing. For this purpose, the Institute of Civil Engineering is acquiring major instrumentation with two robots on linear axes for automated manufacturing funded by the DFG.
The holder of the W1 professorship should be able to represent the subject in its entirety with an emphasis on engineering skills and knowledge in the field of automation and possibilities for incorporating robots. The inclusion of topics on sustainability, climate change, energy and resource optimization are desirable. The successful candidate is expected to take an active role in academic self-administration and close collaboration with partners from building practice and industry.
Requirements: Applicants must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section 102c Berlin State Higher Education Act in combination with Section 102a Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a university degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical engineering) or comparable subject, a strong aptitude for research demonstrated, as a rule, by an outstanding doctorate as well as teaching skills, documented by a teaching portfolio (for further information, see Technische Universität Berlin's website).
Initial experience in programming, working with robots, and in the acquisition and execution of external funding projects is desired.
Applicants must be able to conduct teaching in German and English. The requisite language skills were determined by the Academic Senate in its decision on language policy of 16.05.2018 (see Technische Universität Berlin's website). The successful candidate is expected to assume responsibility for leading a research group and managing its staff and should possess the requisite skills for the advancement of junior scholars and women as well as in the area of gender and diversity.
Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is desired.
