Tenure-Track Professorship for Pathology of
at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources in the Department of Forest Sciences.
Fulltime position, Start-date: 01.10.2021
This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered.
This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.
The professorship represents the field of „Tree Pathology“ in research and teaching.
The research focusses on fungal diseases and their ecology, both in terms of emergence
as well as prevention and environmental control with a focus on Central Europe.
Special attention should be paid to newly introduced and potentially importable pathogens
on forest trees. The professorship thus makes a significant contribution to the
sustainable protection of trees and forests, which in turn has not only ecological, but
also economic and social significance. Cooperation within the faculty, in particular with
the new Chair of Forest Genetics (in the field of resistance research) and the Chair of
Forest Entomology and Forest Protection, as well as with the Forest Research Institute
Baden-Württemberg, is desired.
A special commitment to teaching in forestry and environmental science programs is
expected. The emphasis in teaching is on the importance, recognition and control of
tree diseases. Additional teaching contributions are planned in the fields of mycology
incl. identification of fungi, microbiology and arboriculture.
The ideal candidate has:
research experience in the field of mycological phytopathology of woody plants
expertise in the field of quarantine organisms
an interdisciplinary and international research profile
Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation
and an excellent publication record. This position is a fixed term of four years. After a
successful interim evaluation, it will be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure
procedure towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation.
The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept
for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships and agreed upon with the
Ministry of Science (https://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/service/tenure). As a prerequisite
for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1)
the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be
met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Environment and
Natural Resources have to be met.
