Tenure-Track Professor for Drug-Microbiome Interaction
within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2124 “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI) at the Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine Tübingen

The CMFI studies functional interactions in complex microbial communities, the microbiomes, with emphasis on bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistance. It is a world-leading interdisciplinary research institution awarded as a Cluster of Excellence by the German Excellence Strategy. The CMFI combines more than 40 laboratories at the University of Tübingen, the University Hospital Tübingen, and the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in a stimulating, highly interactive research environment, covering molecular, ecological, immunological, compound-focused, computational, and clinical research.
Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, a documented record of internationally competitive, functional research related to the impact of therapeutic drugs on the human microbiome and modification of drugs and their efficacy by metabolic activities of the microbiome as well as teaching experience. Contributions to other cluster themes and to further research networks of the German Research Foundation and the German Center for Infection Research along with successful acquisition of substantial extramural research funding is also expected. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in Bachelor and Masters’ courses related to the CMFI. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.
Applicants for a tenure-track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen. Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.
This tenure-track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation after six years is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.
