Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Recent Building Heritage Conservation«
pay scale W2 with tenure track option to W3; to begin in summer semester 2017.
The TUM Department of Architecture takes a research-oriented approach to teaching also in cooperation with businesses and
public institutions in Munich. It has an excellent reputation in architectural research throughout Germany. One out of
seven main areas of research is about conservation and rebuilding of architecture and cultural heritage. A cross-disciplinary
research network in this field will link all TUM’s academics and cultural heritage professionals.
The duties of TUM professors include research, teaching and the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in
the research area of Recent Building Heritage Conservation.
Teaching duties include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.
The candidate is expected to develop theoretical and practical foundations of preserving and restoring building stock built after 1945. The
focus will be the optimization of existing processes of traditional building heritage conservation and transferring them to more recent
buildings and monuments, as well as the development of new techniques and methods.
We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who has demonstrated initial
scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest levels.
International scientific experience during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase is required. The successful candidate shows pedagogical aptitude,
including the ability to teach in English.
The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of all aspects of building physics and energy technology regarding building rehabilitation
and building materials. Project-related cooperation with the construction industry, the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics and the
Bavarian Office for Building Heritage Conservation will be necessary.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track
faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor and on to Full Professor.
