Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Precision Agriculture«

to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).
Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and will be cross-appointed to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of precision agriculture with a focus on at least one of the following topics: robotics in agricultural or horticultural plant production, computer modelling and simulation of plant populations, plant-environment interaction and their control, sensor fusion and vertical farming applications. The successful candidate will establish an internationally visible research program at the interface between agricultural and horticultural sciences, mechanical engineering as well as electrics, electronics and/or information technology. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs, in particular in the agricultural and horticultural sciences.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
We expect competencies in research management, leadership and interdisciplinary cooperation as well as a track record in securing third-party funding. The successful candidate will actively cooperate within the research department and essentially contribute to strengthening cooperation between the related TUM schools and departments (the School of Life Sciences, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). The successful candidate is requested to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation and dissemination activities within the Hans Eisenmann-Centre for Agricultural Sciences.
