The Institute for Microbiology is inviting applications for the following position commencing at the earliest opportunity.
Technical research assistant (m/f/x)
Reference number N1679, salary in accordance with the German TV-L salary scale1, pay grade: EG5/EG6 (depending on qualification), duration of employment: : initially fixed-term for 2 years with the option of increase to 100% and a permanent post from mid-2024, volume of employment: 75 % of standard working time.

The pay grade assigned to an employee depends on their professional qualifications and the number of years of service. Each pay grade is further subdivided into levels. Entry-level employees with no previous experience will initially be assigned a level 1 rating. After one year at level 1 of the E10 pay grade, an employee will move up to level 2. After a further two years, the employee will move to level 3, etc.

Job requirements and responsibilities:
• General lab organization: cleaning & sterilizing glassware, making media for yeast and bacterial culture, ordering and organizing lab chemicals
• Maintenance of lab equipment
• Assistance in molecular biology and protein biochemical projects
• Maintenance of the lab strain collection (yeast & bacteria)
Your academic qualifications:
• Either 3 year training as Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA) at an accredited vocational school or a BSc degree in biology, biochemistry, or biotechnology (or something similar)
• Language skills: good knowledge of English (lab language is English), and willingness to learn at least some German (all administrative paperwork at the university is in German)
The successful candidate will also be expected to:
• ability for and interest in organizational tasks and teamwork
• some prior experience with molecular biology, protein biochemistry, or yeast genetics would be a plus, but is not required
