About

We are seeking highly motivated PhD students with a strong background in life science or engineering disciplines such as molecular and cell biology, chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, synthetic biology, material science, computer science, or micro- and nanotechnology. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge research projects and contribute to the interdisciplinary community of the structured Graduate School Life Science Engineering.

Research at Graduate School LSE

  • Equipping cells with new functionality through synthetic biology
  • Targeted modulation of cells and organisms using engineered biomolecules and chemical compounds
  • Constructing bottom-up life-like systems as intelligent biomaterials and biosensors
  • Assembling cells into multicellular structures and tissues (e.g. 3D printing of cells)
  • Interfacing biomolecular systems with solid-state technology
  • Mathematical and computational methods to design and analyze biological systems
  • Engineering biology to address current challenges in sustainability
  • Creating new technology for the interrogation of cells, biomolecules and tissues

Your profile

  • An excellent M.Sc. degree in life science or engineering disciplines
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English language proficiency
  • Passion for interdisciplinary research and the ability to work independently and in a team
