Senior Researcher & Team Leader “Designed Digital Data”
(Salary group 15 TV-L, working time 100%, initially for four years with possible tenure)
The interdisciplinary and internationally constituted department Computational Social Science (CSS) is dedicated to the study of sociocultural phenomena and digital society. For this purpose, we are using new approaches to data collection (e.g., web data collection, web tracking, smartphone apps) as well as different types of analysis methods (e.g., machine learning, network analysis, text and data mining), and standards (reproducible analysis methods).
The team “Designed Digital Data” unlocks digital behavioral data by developing open-source research software for smartphone-based data collections and web tracking. The team also conducts data collections for the social science community.
Your tasks will be:
Leading an interdisciplinary team of postdocs, doctoral students and programmers
Coordination with other GESIS departments and strategic planning of services for smartphone-based data collections and web tracking
Research in the areas of digital behavioral data and computational social science
Presentation of research results and GESIS services to relevant scientific communities
Conception and writing of proposals for third-party funding

Your profile:
Doctoral degree in a social science such as sociology, political science, communication science, psychology or a related discipline
Experience in developing tools or services in the field of computational social science
Strong research profile in one or more of the following areas: (i) CSS methods, (ii) collection of digital behavioral data via smartphones, web tracking, or data donations, (iii) linking surveys and digital behavioral data, (iv) longitudinal analysis of digital behavioral data
Experience in leading interdisciplinary research teams and strong communication skills
Very good command of written and spoken English; proficiency in German is beneficial
