Would you like to contribute to solutions to climate change and resource scarcity? Work with us at the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences – Plant Sciences (IBG-2) – on innovative use, production and technology concepts related to “plants”, “sustainability” and “bioeconomy”. Conduct interdisciplinary research in international or regional teams using state-of-the-art sensors and measurement concepts – in the laboratory, greenhouse, field, or airborne. Contribute to over ten years of experience in plant phenotyping and knowledge-based bioeconomy research.
We are looking to recruit a
Scientist – Tailor-Made Raw Materials for Novel Papermaking Processes
Participation in the development of biotechnological processes for the provision of new fibres and value creation from paper production rejects
Development of workflows for the enzymatic modification of polysaccharides and bio-chemical analysis methods for the characterization of plant fibres
Participation in studies on raw material evaluation and availability
Preparation of data and scientific interpretation of results, independent presentation of results at scientific conferences, and collaboration on scientific publications
Supporting the head of department in project management on the topics of plant fibres and renewable raw materials
PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline
Expertise in enzyme technology and biochemical analysis of carbohydrates
Knowledge of chromatographic and spectroscopic analytical techniques is desirable
Ability to work in an international multidisciplinary team
Excellent written and spoken English / German

We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is initially for a fixed term of two years with possible long-term prospects. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
