Part-time position
Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus Dresden Dresden

The Division of Clinical Neurochemistry (headed by Prof. G. Eisenhofer) is part of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (chair: Prof. T Chavakis) at the Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, Germany. The general research conducted within the Division of Clinical Neurochemistry involves preclinical and clinical investigations of neuroendocrine and autonomic nervous systems in health and disease. Expertise in HPLC-ECD and LC-MS/MS assessments of monoamine neurotransmitters and neurohormones represent core strengths of the Division, with applications now extended to steroidomic and energy pathway metabolomics profiling. Combined with mathematical modelling, bioinformatics and developing strengths in cell biology, transcriptomics and gene editing these methods together provide a powerful systems biology approach for understanding the pathogenesis and improving the diagnosis and therapy of neuroendocrine tumours and cardiometabolic disorders. Links to the clinic are fostered through our Clinical Studies unit, supported in part by the Department of Medicine III and ensuring access to patients and bi-directional bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench components for the research undertaken within the Division.

Effective immediately the following position is vacant:

Scientist / PhD-Student (w/m)

Our team at the Institute of Clinical Chemistry is looking for a PhD candidate to work on the in vitro part of a project, which is part of the SFB/TRR 205 between Dresden, Munich and Würzburg. It is entitled „Adjuvant radiosensitising therapy of metastatic chromaffin cell tumours targeting SDHB/HIF2a-related metabolism in combination with 177Lu-DOTATATE“.
The position (65 % E13) is limited to initially 2 years, but could be extended until June 2021.
The aim is to generate different genetically manipulated cell models (gene over expression, knockouts using CRISPR/Cas) and characterise them in respect to proliferation, apoptosis, motility, invasion, catecholamine and metabolic phenotype.
Additionally, a set of drug candidates will be tested in terms of cytotoxicity and radiosensitising ability. Relevant targets will be evaluated in human tumour tissue. The generated cell line models will be used to establish in vivo allografts in mice in close collaboration with the Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).

Your profile:
  • Master‘s degree in biology, biochemistry or biotechnology
  • Experience in hands-on laboratory work, especially in cell culture and transfections
  • Molecular biology approaches including cloning in E. coli, real-time PCR, western blot
  • Experience with lentiviral transductions is an advantage
  • Interest in research and scientific work
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a team

We offer you:
  • Opportunity to realise your own ideas within an innovative and interdisciplinary team
  • Flexible working hours to accommodate family and professional life
