The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and
state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics
thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.
We are looking for a
to fill a vacancy in the framework of our re-entry program "Back to research" from February 2019 on.
This support programme reaches out to scientists wishing to continue their scientific career after a hiatus for family reasons.
After a hiatus for family reasons, you prepare a proposal for a scientific project together with a section or a working group from the divisions Geosciences,
Climate sciences, Biosciences or Knowledge and Technology Transfer. The proposal should match the research programme PACES II (Polar Regions and Coasts in the
Changing Earth System) and complement the respective working group’s research topics.
You get in touch with the section/ working group on their own in order to consider and coordinate their research project proposal. Alfred Wegener Institute’s women’s
representatives (firstname.lastname@example.org) may assist throughout the procedure.
A prerequisite for being considered for this position is that your career needs to have been interrupted for at least six months and at most five years in order to
raise and parent a child or to look after a relative in need of care. Furthermore, you must hold a PhD, completed with a very good grade.

The position is limited to two years. The salary depends on the profile of the assigned research tasks and will be paid in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag
des öffentlichen Dienstes (TVöD Bund, salary group 13 or 14).
