Institute of Pathology is offering a new position for a
Scientist (m/w/d) for imaging of kidney diseases
The full time position (38,5 hrs/week) is initially for 3 years although our longer term aim would be to work with the successful applicant to extend this. Home working can be incorporated into the working week according to our service agreement.
We are an interdisciplinary team of biologists, clinicians (nephrologists and pathologists) and computer scientists working on basic and translational research in kidney diseases and its cardiovascular consequences. We are strongly team-orientated, yet internationally well networked. A broad spectrum of research methods are well-established across our laboratories including: an extensive range of transgenic mice and disease models and also histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, cell culture, FACS & cell-sorting, molecular biology, in vivo imaging including TPLSM, in vivo measurements of renal function. The non-invasive imaging will be performed in close collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Molecular Imaging, where all necessary equipment is available (e. g., microCT, FMT-CT, MRI, US). We actively seek to develop and embed novel methods and are open to new approaches.
Research focus:
We are searching for an independent researcher with a strong research focus in the analysis and modeling of progressive kidney disease, microscopy and imaging techniques. The planned projects aim to better define and understand the mechanisms governing the transition of acute to chronic kidney disease. We will encourage and support the successful applicant to develop and deliver their own additional research topics. The projects are embedded within the interdisciplinary programs AIM.imaging.CKD (AI-augmented, Multiscale Image-based Diagnostics of Chronic Kidney Disease; ERC consolidator grant) and the Clinical Research Unit 5011 (InteraKD – Integrating emerging methods to advance translational kidney research).
Requirements of the applicant:
You must hold a PhD or MD with an excellent academic record in the field of kidney or imaging research. A high level of methodological and scientific independence, teamwork ability, high enthusiasm for translational research, excellent English knowledge and commitment will be required. Practical experience in conducting animal experiments and advanced microscopy techniques including image analyses are necessary. Leadership skills, particularly in student supervision and the ability to work on parallel projects are also required.
