We are looking for the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) as soon as possible and limited for 3 years for a
(Scientific) Software Developer (f/m/d)
The Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) is a center for data-intensive computing and the analysis of large-scale data with high national and international visibility as well as an innovative and agile IT service provider at KIT – in short, the KIT Information Technology Center.
The Scientific Data Management (SDM) department is responsible for the management, storage, processing, and archiving of large-scale data sets (> 150 PetaByte) from various scientific disciplines (e.g. particle physics or climate research) in a state-of-the-art and complex IT environment.
In the SDM department we are looking for a team reinforcement for our research data management. In all disciplines, it is increasingly important to archive data according to FAIR principles. FAIR stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Furthermore, we also provide classical backup and archiving. In your new position you will deal with:
- Advising KIT researchers on the existing data storage systems and services (especially bwDataArchive and the LSDF) at SCC
- Further development of interfaces and collaboration in the administration of data storage systems and services
- Integration in configuration management systems
Personal qualification
- You have a university degree (diploma (Uni)/Master) in the fields of computer science, engineering or comparable
- Experience in software development
- Strong experience in operation and administration of IT services as well as Linux knowledge
- Skills and experience in at least one modern programming language and scripting language (e.g. Python, Ruby, PHP) also with software development tools
- Self-initiative, independent working style, the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics
In addition, desirable are:
- Confident in spoken and written English and German
- Experience in tape storage systems and research data management
