The Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort offers an innovative, international
environment combined with first-rate teaching in interdisciplinary Bachelor and Master’s degree courses, taught
mainly in English. It is strong in conducting research in disciplines such as technology, natural sciences and
social sciences. More than 6,000 students have already enrolled at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The Lower Rhine region with its attractive countryside is in the direct vicinity of the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation
and the Netherlands, while at the same time being located at the heart of Europe, with two University Campuses
easily accessible from all over the world via the three airports of Amsterdam/Schiphol, Düsseldorf Airport and Weeze.
We are looking for support for the faculty of Life Sciences, Kleve Campus and would like to fill the following
vacancy to 01.01.2017:
Scientific Assistant (m/f) in the international research project “Food Pro.tec.ts – Food production technologies for
trans-boundary systems”, work package TIC 5 – Socio-economic assessment and transfer of technologies for improved biomass utilization
EG 13 TV-L, contract limited from 01.01.2017 to 29.02.2020, part time with 50 per cent of the average regular working time of a full-time employee.
We expect the successful candidate to pursue her or his own academic qualification (e. g., doctoral studies jointly supervised by scientists
from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciencs and a German or international university) and to publish the results in scientific journals.
In the Food Pro.tec.ts project, 18 partners from Germany and the Netherlands collaborate to jointly develop, adapt and
test various technological innovations aimed at promoting a more sustainable agriculture. The work package TIC 5 deals
primarily with technologies for more efficient biomass use. The successful candidate will conduct socio-economic analyses
of these technologies and develop instruments for rural advisory work, which serve to popularize these technologies.
The vacancy is subject to the formal grant approval.
Design the research approach and conduct the research work within the project
Closely cooperate with the German and Dutch companies, universities and institutions involved in the project for data collection and data analysis
Present research results at workshops and conferences and publish results in national and international academic journals
Supervise Bachelor and Master theses on topics related to the project
Support project management and reporting activities
Assist in attracting additional third-party funding
Above average successfully completed scientific university degree in agricultural economics or related disciplines
Analytical and conceptual skills, familiarity with inferential statistical methods and quantitative simulations, including relevant software
Practical experience with methods of empirical social research
Strong motivation to conduct and publish high-quality academic research
Work experience in the agribusiness sector is of advantage
High autonomy, responsibility and team spirit
Very good English and German skills corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; knowledge of Dutch is of advantage
An initial research plan/proposal for a doctoral/PhD research project not exceeding 1,500 words, and copies of own academic publications should be submitted
