Researcher (m/f) Salary according to German public service tariff (TVÖD)
From € 45.000 gross p.a. up to € 62.000 gross p.a. depending on qualifications;
The positions shall be filled as soon as possible and are currently limited until 31 December 2019.
Both researchers will be part of a larger, cross-departmental and multidisciplinary team working on migration and forced displacement. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to innovative and methodologically demanding empirical research on causes of forced displacement and constellations of state fragility and conduct both largen cross-country research and individual country-case field studies.
Position A will mainly contribute to research on causes and triggers of displacement with a view to developing policy responses.
Position B will primarily, though not exclusively, focus on constellations of state fragility, building on previous DIE research in this area.
We are looking for individuals with strong research and communication skills who can independently conduct excellent empirical research and provide sound policy advice at national and international levels and who are good team players.
Qualifications and requirements:
Excellent academic record based on a master's degree and (preferably)
a PhD in political or other related social science;
Substantial knowledge in one or more of the following issue areas: migration and forced displacement, state fragility, international support in crisis contexts; proficiency in the analysis of political governance and multi-level governance is an asset;
Very good command of quantitative methods and relevant software packages and experience in cross-country macro-statistical analysis are
an asset for position A and mandatory for position B;
Proficiency in multivariate statistical analysis is an asset for Position A;
Proficiency in the statistical software “R“ and with finite mixture models as well as experience in web-based data visualisation (e.g. infographics, interactive plots) and science communication are strong assets for Position B;
Research or professional experience in developing countries;
Fluent spoken and written English, proficiency in another major international language; good German language skills are of added value;
Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate (“Tropentauglichkeit“).
