Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung GmbH (ZEW)Mannheim
The ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim is looking to fill the following position in the newly
established Junior Research Group "Economics of Public Procurement" within the Department "Corporate Taxation and Public Finance"
at the earliest date possible:
Researcher in Public Economics and Industrial Organization (Doctoral Student | 100 %)
Public Procurement (i.e., the purchase of supplies, services and constructions on behalf of government authorities as inputs for their daily activity, creation of
public assets and social transfers in kind to citizens) has been a topic of major interest in the last few years and attracted the attention of both academics and
policy-makers. Through the lens of economics, members of the Junior Research Group mostly work on current issues on public procurement that are at the intersection
of public economics and industrial organization.
As a successful applicant, you will contribute to the group's scientific research agenda, with the goal of publications in high-level scientific journals, as well as
its economic policy advising projects with high visibility among economic decision-makers and the public. This position is aimed at master graduates with a very good
degree in economics (or related fields) and interests in industrial organization or public economics. We also expect specialization in empirical analysis as well as a
solid knowledge of econometrics (mainly microeconometrics) coupled with programming skills (Stata, R or Python). For instance, first-year PhD students of the CDSE program
have an excellent foundation for the work as a doctoral student in this research group and are strongly encouraged to apply. Your entrepreneurship, your ability to create
synergies between the two main fields of activity, the joy of opening up new topics, and strong English writing skills complete your profile. German language skills are
appreciated but not required.
ZEW is offering you as successful applicant the chance to take on a challenging role in a dynamic research environment. The Junior Research Group "Economics of Public Procurement"
and ZEW as a whole with its vast international network of Research Associates, and its strategic location next to the University of Mannheim, offer an excellent platform for
your career development and the opportunity to position yourself scientifically in highly interesting research topics. Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale
(E 13, https://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/west/) and its associated public sector benefits.
We explicitly support your further academic qualifications (doctorate), for example in the form of courses, the granting of sabbaticals, and the support of research visits
at foreign universities and research institutions.
please submit your application (including a motivation letter, CV, and transcripts) by April 30, 2019 citing the reference code "Z-UB/PP-04/19" via
the online application form on our website. Applicants invited for an interview will be asked to submit a writing sample. We are able to conduct interviews
via Skype (or other teleconferencing platforms). Dr. Leonardo M. Giuffrida (Head of the Junior Research Group) will gladly answer any further questions.
He can be reached at email@example.com or +49 621 1235-328.
