The positions (full-time) start as soon as possible and last for two years (until June 30, 2019 at maximum).
The salary is subject to the German TV-L payscale (TV-L E 13).
The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) investigates constellations of education and religion in Greek and Roman
religion, Judaism, Christianity and Islam from the 5th century BCE to the 13th century CE. Research is guided by
the assumption that investigating the relationship of education and religion will provide deeper insights into
cultural, social, and religious dynamics that were fundamental in these cultures and religions. The tableau of
academic disciplines involves Classics and Jewish Studies as well as Christian biblical exegesis and Church History,
Religious Studies, Islamic Studies, Oriental Studies, Medieval History, and Pedagogics of Religion.
The CRC aims at supporting early career scholars (with PhD degree). The CRC offers to the postdoctoral candidates
a unique opportunity to conduct their research within the CRC. They will especially receive support in order to
develop an application for a third-party funded research project in one of the following fields of investigation:
History of Religions in the first millennium BCE
Jewish Studies with focus on Late Antique Judaism
The successful candidates are expected
to carry out research within one of the above-mentioned fields of expertise in connection to the general research foci of the CRC,
to develop an application for a third-party funded research project within the thematic field of the CRC in order to acquire funding for their own position after two years,
to take part actively in the interdisciplinary collaboration within the CRC, especially in the latter’s plenary meetings, workshops, and joint publications,
to contribute to the ongoing reflection of the overall research schedule of the CRC.
The successful candidate for the research position should have
a PhD degree in one of the fields of investigation as mentioned above,
research experience and publication record fitting with the research foci of the CRC,
excellent command of English; good command of German or, respectively, the willingness to acquire it,
willingness to be present at Göttingen continually.
The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career
opportunities for female scholars. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. The university has
committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family
life. The mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from
severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
