Published 21 November 2018 (385 days ago)
Full-time position
Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology Belval (Luxemburg)

Research engineer in data collection and processing (M/F)

in Belval, Luxembourg

Context

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is appointing Research engineer for the RDI Unit "Trusted Service Systems (TSS) - which is part of the "IT for Innovative Services"? (ITIS) Department.

The TSS unit is a multidisciplinary team performing applied research in the field of building trustworthy service systems (e.g. logistics and supply chain management) from the perspectives of big data, optimization, and security protection. The successful candidate will join the "Operations and Supply Chain Optimization" research group, which focusses on data optimisation and requirements, operations optimisation, and sustainable supply chains. One of the main application domain is related to Transportation and Mobility.

Description

LIST is looking for a highly motivated candidate who will work on topics related to data collection and processing. In this context, the candidate will contribute to the state-of-the-art scientific knowledge in this area, by modelling and implementing systems that can capture data from multiple heterogeneous sources and interpret targeted indicators. Two main directions will be addressed. The first considers mobile devices attached to a user as a means of profiling his/her behaviour or context and thereby recommend actions to be taken. The second considers fixed sensors deployed across Luxembourg and regularly retrieving information to a central decision point, serving as a basis for managing a waste collection service. The candidate will also be in charge of disseminating and promoting the research activities that will be carried out, whether through publications, patents, prototype development or technical reports.

Scope of responsibilities:

  • Define software architectures that consider devices with limited energy, computational and storage resources.
  • Set up databases allowing the aggregation and indexing of heterogeneous data types.
  • Use artificial intelligence techniques to address data prediction, interpolation or anomaly detection issues. User profiling methods will be investigated.
  • Set up advanced visualisation interfaces presenting collected and interpreted information under various views.
  • Develop SW prototypes that implement the aforementioned points. It is for instance expected a mobile navigation prototype for professional drivers, and potentially another one recommending actions to a user based on his/her perceived behaviour.
