The Department of Hydrogeology at the TU Berlin focusses on the sustainable management of groundwater resources, which require modern utilization concepts due to land use change and climate change. The department has extensive experimental field equipment as well as two hydrogeological test fields (hard rock and porous media) for research and teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for two field sites of the hydrogeology and the field and laboratory equipment of the hydrogeology group.

Working field:
Within the scope of the position, experimental field methods shall be developed, which allow the integration of natural heterogeneity of aquifers into numerical models of the unsaturated and saturated zone. The main focus is on catchment-scale investigations and parameterization as well as the development of hydrogeological and hydrogeophysical field methods to derive infiltration dynamics. Lead of the experimental hydrogeological courses with 4 LVS and engagement in the supervision of bachelor and master theses is expected. Teaching includes supervision of the field course and conduction of lectures and exercises on hydrogeological laboratory and field methods as well as geostatistics. The willingness to support the department in the acquisition of external funding is desired. The person will be responsible for supervising the PhDs that conduct research within experimental hydrogeology. The possibility for a habilitation is offered.
Requirements:
A person with experience in experimental hydrogeology at the field scale is sought. Pre-requisites for the advertised position are:
- Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in geosciences (or comparable).
- Ph.D. with emphasis on experimental hydrogeology or field hydrogeophysics
- Experience in publishing research results in ISI-listed journals
- The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
- Willingness to travel on business trips for 5-10 days in Germany, Europe and non-European counties
- Willingness for multi-day field work, both in Germany and abroad, such as lifting heavy equipment even during adverse weather conditions
- Class B driver's license
Additionally desirable are:
- Knowledge in stochastic methods and geostatistics
- Knowledge of programming languages (preferably Python)
The post holder has teaching experience as well as gender and diversity competence.
