Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort, Germany, offers an innovative and international

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is located in the scenic Lower Rhine between the economic hub of the
Rhine-Ruhr metropolis and the Netherlands. Its central European location ensures that both campus locations are
easily accessible via three international airports: Amsterdam (Schiphol), Düsseldorf and Weeze.
We are currently inviting applications for the following vacancy in the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, Kleve
Campus, to be filled by 1st June 2018:
Research Associate (m/f)
in Science Communication & Stakeholder Management
German TV-L pay scale level E13, depending on funding approval fixed-term contract until 31.05.2022
according to section 2 (2) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG), full-time for two
years, and then reduced to 80% for the remaining two years unless additional funding has been acquiredReference number 01/F1/18Your tasks:
Self-reliant working in a large international research project on sustainable water technologies
Scientifically conducting stakeholder analyses
Applying those results in dialogue-oriented activities for upstream science engagement
Analysing communication needs and constraints in certain specialised communities
Developing, managing, and monitoring communication and marketing strategies and activities
Online monitoring and event management; project administration
Planning and supporting in exploitation and transfer of project results (reports; patenting, regulatory affairs, media relations)
Managing und supporting in building a sustainable stakeholder network beyond the project lifetime
Collaborating with international partner institutions and coordinate a work package
Supporting in teaching in Science Communication at Bachelor and Master level, as well as CPD
Methodologically supervising science communication research theses and projects
Developing research proposals and managing collaboration in research and teaching
Academic degree (Master level), ideally (i) either in science communication/a communication or information science, STS or similar discipline, or (ii) in water management/sustainability
Pertinent work experience of at least three years in stakeholder management, e.g. upstream public engagement activities
Skills in and experience with quantitative and qualitative social science research methods, especially survey design, focus groups, and sampling; study design; inferential statistics; basic knowledge and experience with software tools for research such as R, Tableau, SPSS, MAXQDA
Expertise and if possible practical experience in political communication for science and innovation, e.g. science policy advice, technology assessment, science advocacy, science diplomacy
Good skills in work administration and organisation, including basic IT skills (MS Office, MS Project, CMS, Social Media, post-production of audio-visual content)
Very good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and in writiten), including very good English language skills, at least C1 under CEFR
Experience with international research projects, if possible in the area of science communication
Teaching experience in tertiary education, ideally in science communication
If possible basic knowledge of German and Italian, or at least willingness to acquire such language skills during the project
Ideally training and/or experience in grant writing and project management
Rhine-Waal as an international university does not require but recommend some basic knowledge of German, e.g. for
administrative purposes. Hence new employees are expected to acquire a basic level of German (B1 CEFR) within the
first two years of their employment.
Part-time employment is also possible for this position.
