Research associate in a project on ‘multinational police assistance‘
This 65 percent position, available from 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2021, will be remunerated at pay group 13 (EG 13) of the public sector pay agreement of the City of Hamburg (TV-AVH).
The IFSH is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Hamburg that is supported by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The research activities of the IFSH concentrate on current developments and challenges in peace and security with a focus on the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian areas.
The research associate will conduct research as part of a project on "Multinational Police Assistance". The project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 2018-2021, is led by the principal investigators Prof. Dr. Ursula Schröder and Dr. habil. Cornelius Friesendorf. The research associate is encouraged to conduct concurrent work on a doctoral degree in line with the candidate‘s work in the project.
Analyzing international and transnational police assistance and reform with focus on the
case of Kosovo and, possibly, a state in the post-Soviet space.
Independently preparing and conducting fieldwork in Kosovo and possibly another recipient
state, as well as at the level of donor police agencies and the headquarters of international
Presenting the project findings, together with the principal investigators, in academic publications.
A university degree (M.A. or equivalent) in the social sciences.
In-depth knowledge of security policy, International Relations, and/or peace and conflict research. Knowledge of research in the field of policing is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of Albanian, Serbian, Russian, and/or Ukrainian is an asset.
Knowledge of qualitative methods, including interview techniques and focus groups is an asset.
Good project management skills.
Willingness to conduct fieldwork in challenging environments and to communicate with security sector actors.
Knowledge of the Western Balkans and post-Soviet states is an asset.
Communicative competence, ability to work as part of a team, self-motivated, organiza-tional ability.
