RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (F/M) - WIND TURBINE AERODYNAMICS

Wind energy is our primary focus. Our institute is home to more than 250 employees and students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development. We achieve this with a combination of an internationally unique testing infrastructure and extensive methods expertise in the fields of the reliability and validation of wind turbines.

You will be working on the computational calculation of aerodynamic effects on wind turbines. A large part of your work will be the realistic simulation of turbulent wind fields. You will run Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with OpenFOAM. Your aim will be to expand the possibilities for determining complex aerodynamic effects in wind energy. That means optimal further development of the methods utilizing a combination of results from experiments and computational options. In order to stay up to date with the state of the art in the field, you will also spend a lot of time researching.
No two days are ever the same!
Moreover, you will acquire industry projects and apply for publicly funded research projects both within Germany and abroad. At the same time, you will participate in a range of different research projects and, following an initial learning period, also take over some of the project management tasks. You will document your own work, write reports, and publish academic papers. In addition, a great deal of communication is also essential, as you are in constant exchange with project partners, customers, and your team. Get actively involved and help to shape your role. We want to hear your research ideas!

Have you completed your Master's degree or Diploma in the field of Engineering or Natural Sciences?
Are you specialized in Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Technology? Have you already had a chance to put your extensive aerodynamics expertise to the test in a work situation? Have you already calculated wind turbine wind fields and know what challenges are encountered there? You are in a league of your own when it comes to programming with OpenFOAM and CFD simulations? Great! We would be delighted if you could impart and develop your expertise from day 1. Perhaps you've already worked in industry and know what the requirements are there? Or maybe you've already worked in application-oriented research? Then we're looking for you! You will present your results in your team and our customers as well as at conferences. This is not a problem for you in both English and German.

We offer you the possibility of working from other locations too at certain times. After all, even though your work is important to us, we want you to have time for your family and yourself, too.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited for 3 years.
This vacancy is also available on a part-time basis.
