The Max-Planck-Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems conducts in collaboration with the Chair for Circuit Design and Network Theory at the Technische Universität Dresden and the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM a validation project on Self-organized synchronization of mutually delay-coupled electronic clocks.
On a fixed-term basis of max. 3 years, starting on July 1st, 2019, we are looking for a
(Physics, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering)
transfer of a novel synchronization concept from the basic sciences to application
develop a modular and scalable architecture design for the envisioned microchips
two production runs with these microchips in BiCMOS technology, setup of demonstrator
validation of this novel approach for the application in the next-generation electronic systems, e.g., in communications, antenna arrays, indoor navigation, and data-centers
start-up a company with this technology following the project period
close collaboration with electrical engineers and physicists at the interface between the theoretical models and the hardware implementation of the architecture design
develop control and calibration schemes for the self-organized synchronization dynamics
customization and derivation of mathematical models, programming task
evaluation of prototype measurements, the optimization of boot strategies
publication and presentation of the obtained results
master degree, diploma or higher in above specified disciplines
good communication skills, structured working approach
the ability to independently develop new ideas within an interdisciplinary team
Experience in the design of analogue and radio frequency integrated circuits, especially using BiCMOS technologies, mathematical modeling of electronic circuitry, experience with electronic mea-surement tools (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer), and the analysis of experimental data is an asset but not mandatory.
