RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (F/M) FOR WIND FIELD RECONSTRUCTION FROM LIDAR MEASUREMENTS

Wind energy is our primary focus. Our institute is home to more than 250 employees and students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development. We achieve this with a combination of an internationally unique testing infrastructure and extensive methods expertise in the fields of the reliability and validation of wind turbines.

You will characterize the wind field that blows through a wind turbine based on extensive measurements such as three-dimensional lidar measurements, which you will combine with mathematical wind field models. When doing so, you will develop new methods for data evaluation and wind field reconstruction. The wind field you calculate is required to improve models for the aerodynamics of rotor blades, wind turbine loads, and their yields.

Your day-to-day work will be very varied: you will carry out research to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and, at the same time, you will be involved in different research and industry projects, communicate in interdisciplinary project teams, write publications and compile project reports (yes, we also have to do that), and acquire industry projects yourself. In addition, you will also apply for publicly funded research projects at national and European level.

Have you completed an Engineering degree (Diploma / Master)?
You have a background in Engineering or Natural Sciences. Have you already looked at wind conditions for wind energy use in the scope of your professional career to date? It would also be an asset if you have already taken a closer look at lidar technology and wind energy technology. Maybe you have even worked in application-oriented research and development and have managed your own projects? It would be great when you bring in your expertise right from day one. Have you already complemented your professional expertise with a doctorate? That would be great, but you can also kick off your career with us without it. You have not yet ruled out a doctorate? We create the opportunities for you and offer you the necessary support and assistance. You present your results to your team, our customers, and the academic community - and do so with ease in both English and German.

We have a flextime and core time system which allows us to be very flexible. Would you like to be able to define your work location flexibly? We offer you the possibility of working from our site in Bremen at certain times, too. After all, even though your work is important to us, we want you to have time for your family and yourself, too.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits base on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited for 3 years.
