The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony
(Niedersächsische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen)
seeks to appoint from 1.1.2024 two research assistants (f/m/d) for the research unit
of the project “Die Editio critica maior des griechischen Psalters” (“The editio critica
maior of the Greek Psalter”) in Göttingen.
The posts are initially limited until 31.12.2025, with the prospect of extension. Salary:
E 13 TV-L, volume of work 100 %. The posts are in principle suitable for part-time
work.
The aim of the Academy project, which has been running since January 1, 2020, is
the systematic study of the tradition and textual history of the Septuagint Psalms,
which will lead to the elaboration of a new critical edition of the Psalmi cum Odis
(“Psalms and Odes”). This will be published as a printed book and also presented in
digital form.
The future area of responsibility will essentially comprise two sub-areas, the
development of a collation database, which will contain the most important patristic
variants of the so-called Antiochene Psalter text, and the further development of the
Göttingen Hexapla database, taking into account the Syrohexaplaric tradition. A
central task will be to prepare the edition of the Psalms commentary of Theodoret of
Cyrus in joint teamwork.
An excellent knowledge of ancient Greek as well as of Greek palaeography and
codicology is required. Experience in collating and revising manuscripts is desirable,
in addition to practical experience in describing manuscripts. Existing insights into
Septuagint research are advantageous.
It is expected that applicants have completed a University degree in Theology or
Classical Philology and have a proven knowledge of the ancient languages (Greek,
Latin, Hebrew, Syriac) and experience in dealing with Greek manuscripts.
