Research Assistant / PhD student (f/m/d) for The Center for Synthetic Microbiology

Research Assistant (PhD student)
The positions are offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The positions
are part-time (50 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).
The research group studies symbiotic microbe-plant interactions. The projects, funded by the German Research Foundation, investigate the molecular basis of the
interaction between alphaproteobacterial rhizobia and their host plants. The research will be centered on the early infection states of the root nodule symbiosis.
Modern methods in molecular microbiology, synthetic biology, biochemistry and fluorescence microscopy will be used. We offer research training in a dynamic team
embedded in a collaborative scientific environment that is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies.
The positions are limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to
conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
The successful applicant holds a MSc degree or equivalent in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics or Biochemistry and has solid practical experiences in methods in
microbiology, molecular genetics and biochemistry. Experience in fluorescence microscopy will be useful. Further requirements include a creative, analytical and critical
mindset, the ability to work independently and to further develop the project. The positions require the willingness to work in a team, good English oral and writing skills.
The willingness for further scientific qualification (e. g. a PhD thesis within the field of microbiology) is expected.
