Research Assistant /PhD Student
(Salary Scale 13 TVL)
This definite term position is available for 3 years. In principle, this position can be divided into
two half-time positions.
The position and its tasks:
The Chair for Software and Systems Engineering (http://sen.uni-konstanz.de/) is developing
algorithmic techniques and tools to support the design of safe embedded systems, in particular
in the areas of autonomous mobility and cyber-physical systems. Of particular interest is
the development of analysis techniques based on formal methods. As an example, in the
course of the QuantUM project (www.quantum-tool.com) we develop an automated tool
based on causality checking to support the safety analysis in a model-based system development
process. We offer English language academic courses from a large range of topics in
software and systems engineering and formal methods in which we introduce into the theoretical
and methodological foundations as well as practical industrial applications. Your tasks
include support of the work of the chair in research and teaching, thereby also shaping our
activities. There will be the opportunity to prepare a PhD thesis during the term of this position,
and pursuing a PhD is highly desired. In exceptional situations candidates possessing a PhD
can be hired as post-doctoral fellows in the same pay scale.
You possess a scientific graduate degree (Master’s level) or a PhD in Computer Science with
excellent grades. You have a solid background in software engineering and its foundations
and you feel comfortable working on theoretical as well as application oriented problems.
You also enjoy developing software and you have software development experience. You are
eager to present your ideas internationally. You have excellent English language proficiency
in speech and writing. While full proficiency in German is not a requirement for this position,
it is expected that candidates will acquire a basic proficiency during their employment.
