FIBER COMPOSITE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
The Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES Northwest covers applied research and
development for the complete wind-power value chain. Its particular strength lies in the combination of a worldwide
unique test infrastructure with extensive expertise in reliability and validation. With more than 250 employees and
students at its headquarter in Bremerhaven as well as at its branches in Hanover, Bremen and Oldenburg, IWES Northwest
serves national and international clients. We are currently looking for a candidate to fill the above vacancy in our
department »Material Characterization and Structural Analysis« at our headquarters in Bremerhaven,
Germany, at the next available opportunity.
What we expect from you
You have successfully completed an engineering degree in the field of mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering,
or a similar discipline and subsequently earned a doctorate in the same field. In addition, you also have a number of
years of professional experience in academia and/or applied research. Your professional specialization is in analytical
and numerical simulation (FEM) for mechanical components. Expertise in the field of experimental materials and structural
testing as well as fiber composite materials is also desirable. Since Fraunhofer IWES Northwest performs a variety of
duties at an international level, an excellent command of English is a prerequisite. You possess refined organizational
and communication skills, a high level of self motivation, creativity, and flexibility, plus you enjoy working as part
of a team.
What you can expect from us
Rotor blades are central components of wind turbine systems and subject to a wide range of requirements. The blades’
degree of aerodynamic efficiency must be high, the resulting loads must be low, and the production costs should ultimately
prove as cost-effective as possible. These requirements concerning extreme operating demands and low structural costs can
only be satisfied with state-of-the-art technology and optimal understanding of the systems involved.
As a postdoc researcher for fiber composite structural analysis you will take on the processing and management of public and
industrial projects as well as providing support in the strategic, academic, and technological steering and further development
of the department. Your duties will also include the acquisition, budgeting, and budget monitoring of R&D projects. Furthermore,
your tasks will include the development of analytical and assessment methods. We offer responsible and varied work and the

The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited for 3 years.
