Faculty VII, Institute of Economics and Law / Workgroup for Infrastructure PolicyReference number: VII-672/17 (starting at 01/02/18 / limited until 31/03/2021 / closing date for applications 05/01/18)
Working field: Involvement in Research (and complementary teaching) at the workgroup and analysis of economic
and political economy questions with regards to the design of energy, climate and structural policies for sustainable development.
The focus lies on resulting dynamics for the local, regional, national and international level (especially regarding fossil fuels).
The position is part of the junior research group „CoalExit - Identifying Building Blocks for Future Regional Transformation
rameworks", which is coordinated by TU Berlin together with HU Berlin, DIW Berlin and the Hertie School of Governance. The
junior research group analyses, amongst others, the question on how global consumption of coal can be reduced by adequate energy
and climate policy to contain the consequences of climate change. A special focus lies on opportunities to structure a socially
acceptable coal phase-out for Germany. Building on this analysis, the transferability of results will be analyzed for the case
study countries India, China, South Africa and Columbia. In parallel, the implications for the international coal market will
be investigated. The completion of a PhD is intended.

Candidates must have completed university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) in economics (or business engineering, sustainable management, etc.) or related fields (e.g. political sciences or energy economics)
Very good study results desirable
Knowledge about the relevant theoretical areas
Experiences in numerical modelling or empirical social sciences and the implementation of case studies in the field of sustainability
Very good English and very good German language skills
