The Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) conducts research in horticulture and related sciences, to promote a sustainable production of vegetables. We are a plant science institute, with a view on the use of plants as food and in our living environment.
Our institute is interested in the generation of highly nutritional plant-based food. The work contributes to a sustainable production of high quality horticultural products meeting the consumer demands.
The research group Food Chemistry and Human Nutrition is looking for a
Research assistant (f,m,div.) with an opportunity for doctoral studies project PermAFog
in the joint project PermAFog. The position will be filled at the earliest possible date and is initially limited to 30.11.2021. The salary will be according to wage group EG 13 (TV-L, salary domain east, 65 % of the regular working time) depending on candidate skills and experiences. There is the opportunity for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Potsdam.
The project PermAFog deals with the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable permanent antifog additive masterbatches for polyolefin foils in greenhouse applications. This improvement in material functionality
will contribute reducing the amount of plastic waste produced in greenhouse vegetable cultivation compared to standard greenhouse foils. The aim is to reduce the leaching onto vegetables and into the environment and study the impact on intrinsic and extrinsic quality parameters of vegetables. By preventing the leaching of antifog additives this joint project delivers an active contribution for the protection of consumers and the environment.
conception and evaluation of experimental settings
study the migration of antifog additives in soils and plants
study the plant response for example by determination of particular metabolites of the secondary metabolism
publishing of research results
Skills and requirements:
a highly motivated candidate with a master or equivalent degree in food chemistry, biology, nutritional science, bio-chemistry, or related disciplines
effective knowledge in modern analytical techniques like HPLC/MS and GC/MS
basic knowledge in molecular biological methods is favorable
excellent English communication skills
an ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary research field
a research project where you will have the possibility to interact with many researchers working on a broad range of topics
an attractive workplace in an excellently equipped laboratory in the Berlin area
option for advanced training e.g. provided by the Potsdam Graduate School (PoGS)
