Research Assistant (Doctoral Candidate, m/f/d)
– Data sciences for sustainable building design and engineering (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
starting February 1st, 2022. The position is limited to three years, with the possibility of extension.
The recently established Heisenberg chair “Sustainable Building Services” is looking for an ambitious assistant who carries out research and teaching on data sciences including methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence for assistance in building design, engineering, operation of building services, energy efficiency, and sustainability of buildings.
The core activity of the position is research in the field data-driven methods that support building design and planning. The methods integrate the fields of digital modelling of buildings (Building Information Modelling, BIM), building performance data (sensorics, building monitoring, smart buildings/cities, building simulation), and data science (analytics, AI, machine learning). Besides activities of scientific work, regular teaching assignments in the field of data science for design and engineering sciences belong to the tasks of this qualification position.
Applicants for the position must have a scientific university degree (Diploma or Master) in the building, engineering or informatics domain preferably with a focus in the field computer sciences and building performance. Skills in the fields listed above as well as an aptitude to work with sensors and technology in lab and demonstrator environments are beneficial. Furthermore, the willingness to get familiar with new fields and a team-oriented working attitude are required. The motivation for scientific work and for completing a PhD degree as well as very good communication skills in English, oral as well as written, are expected.
