Offenburg University of Applied Sciences is seeking to appoint a

As both a corporate entity under public law and a state entity, Offenburg University of
Applied Sciences is run by a Rector's Office. In your capacity as Rector, you will represent
the university both internally and externally; you will also chair the Rector's Office, the
Senate and its committees. The law regulating higher education in Baden-Württemberg
defines the specific tasks and legal status.
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and persuasive individual who is willing to accept
responsibility; you will possess strong leadership qualities and advanced negotiating and
social skills. A high level of commitment allied with powers of strategic expression and
diplomacy are key requirements of the incumbent. In addition to these qualities, the future
job holder should possess several years' relevant industrial or commercial experience
and/or experience relating to knowledge management in a position of responsibility. A
strong technical aptitude would be desirable, preferably verified by a relevant academic
qualification. Ideally, the person we are seeking will be able to demonstrate international
experience (period of academic study and/or professional appointments) and possess the
The future Rector should hold an university degree and have several years' experience in a
managerial position, ideally in the spheres of industry, science, art, business, management
or the administration of justice; their main current role may be that of university professor,
suggesting readiness for the duties of the office of Rector.
The Rector will be elected at a joint meeting of the University Council and the Senate.
The appointment, which will be made by the Minister-President of the State of Baden-
Württemberg, is for a term of 6-8 years; the incumbent will be a limited-term civil servant,
unless the contract provides for a fixed-term employment relationship. Re-elections
are possible. The salary will be paid in line with the State Remuneration Act for Baden-
Württemberg (W3), together with function-related benefits.
