Announcement: Professor (W3) in Algorithm Engineering
The Faculty of Mathematics and of Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany, invites applications for a professorship (W2/W3) in Algorithm Engineering.
The expected starting date is October 2022. Our new colleague (m/f/o) should be an internationally renowned researcher in at least one of the following areas:
- realistic modelling of algorithmic problems and their efficient implementation on modern computer architectures,
- minimisation of communication, storage access, and energy consumption,
- processing of massive datasets,
- algorithms for irregular problems, and
- algorithm design from an engineering point of view.
In addition to theoretical considerations and practical evaluations we require the design of reliable software tools for generic tasks as well as their actual use in realistic problem instances arising from scientific application areas employing modern computer architectures.
We expect her or him to have cooperated successfully in various settings and that she or he will take advantage of the excellent opportunities for cooperation provided in Jena within and without the Institute for Computer Science, for instance the Michael-Stifel-Center for Data-Driven and Simulation Science. Also, she or he should have leadership competencies as well as third party funding.
lgorithm engineering is of high relevance to both our own curricula and those of other departments. We are therefore looking for someone with the ability to cover a broad range of aspects of this topic in teaching. We also expect participation in academic self-administration.
Requirements for a successful application are a university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and high-standard academic research skills, proven by a PhD, habilitation, or equivalent scholarly achievements. The appointment as professor is granted with civil service status if the legal requirements are met.
The Friedrich Schiller University is encouraging female scientist to apply. Handicapped applicants of equal qualification will be given preference.
The professorship comes with a PhD student/Postdoc position on the E13 salary scale.
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, list of publications, list of university courses given, list of external funding raised, and a research statement)
should be sent electronically (in a single pdf file) by
