The Department of Engineering and Industrial Design at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill, by 01.10.2021 and for an unlimited period, the following W2 professorship in the subject of Machine Tools to teach 16 lecture periods per week at its Magdeburg site:
W2 Professor of Machine Tools
With its new and dynamic combination of subjects, the Department of Engineering and Industrial Design is a department with an interdisciplinary focus that offers undergraduate Bachelor's and consecutive Master's degree programmes in a variety of disciplines.
For this post we are seeking a person with proven scientific expertise and many years of practical, successful involvement in the field of machine tools and production systems. As part of the ongoing digitalisation and networking of manufacturing systems, you will be expected to be able to convey current concepts in the design and operation of machine tools. Relevant experience in the acquisition and handling of third-party-financed research projects is desirable. The person to be appointed should have expertise in several of the following areas and be able to take active responsibility for them in terms of research and teaching:
Machine tools and their components
Development of new manufacturing facilities / new technologies (e. g. additive manufacturing)
Machine-integrated measuring systems and image processing
Machine tool programming (CNC/CAM)
The post holder will also be required to take on teaching responsibilities in their subject area on all relevant programmes offered by the university, and to supervise final theses and project work. Furthermore, you will be prepared to participate in academic self-governance tasks and the organisation of teaching and studies, as well as the development of the study programmes. You will naturally also demonstrate a commitment to technology and knowledge transfer.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) and the Guidelines on the Procedures for Appointing Professors at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences dated 13.06.2018 (BerufungsRL), both as amended.
These include a completed university degree, pedagogic ability, and a special aptitude for scientific work, which will generally have been demonstrated by the acquisition of a doctoral degree. Particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated through several years of professional practice, at least three years of which must have been outside of the higher education sector.
What we offer:
A post remunerated at W2 level is available for the professorship (Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended).
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 sentence 9 HSG LSA.
