The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research
and teaching. The Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Professor of Family Business Law
(pay grade: W2)
to commence as soon as possible. Employment will be subject to private law or in a civil servant position in the scope of an endowed professorship
and will be for a fixed term of six years.
In addition to civil law, applicants should primarily address family business law in both their research and teaching. A clearly visible research
focus on the areas of tax law or company law with links to family-run businesses would be an asset.
The applicant should also have an interest in the aspects of legal studies that are unique to Bayreuth, such as the supplemental programmes in
technology and in business and economics, as well as the relevant focus areas at the university. The successful applicant will be expected to
contribute to undergraduate teaching and be involved in the preparation for examinations in civil law, in the focus areas, and in the department’s
English-taught curriculum and basic legal courses. He or she will also contribute to Bayreuth’s Centre for Family Businesses (FoFamU). The position
further requires a willingness to procure external funding, to be actively involved in academic self-administration, and to engage in dialogue with
stakeholders such as family businesses and their organizations.
Requirements for this position (according to Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, a doctoral degree, a
Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), and proven excellence in teaching. Evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement,
for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. The ability to teach in the English language is
expected. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
