Professorships (W2) - TUM - Logo
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications in the field of

» Theoretical Chemistry «

for one position as W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) and one positions as W3 on Associate/Full Professor, to begin as soon as possible.

Scientific environment
The professorships will be assigned to the TUM Department of Chemistry and will be cross-appointed to the catalytic research center (CRC). They should also contribute to the theoretical research program of the excellence cluster „e-conversion“. Networking with the biochemical working groups and research activities in the field of photochemistry is expressly desired.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint experts in the research area of theoretical chemistry with a focus on calculating and simulating dynamic processes in energy relevant materials or quantum dynamics of large molecular (bio) systems in different environments. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. It is expected that the appointees will shape the future direction of theoretical chemistry at TUM.

Qualifications
We are looking for personalities with research experience who have demonstrated achievements in research and teaching at the highest international level, corresponding to the relevant career level. A completed university degree, an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. International research experience is expected. Proven ability to initiate and lead research projects as well as to acquire third-party funding is required.
Possible research topics include the atomistic understanding of elementary transport phenomena or chemical reactions in energy conversion processes. It is expected to demonstrate competence in the further development of novel theoretical or computer-aided methods for one or more of the above-mentioned questions. The development and application of innovative “coarse-grained” or “multi-scale” methods are also of interest. Proven experience with the calculation of time-resolved transient signals and the decoding of the molecular mechanisms of intra- and intermolecular transfer processes are an advantage.

Our Offer
The regulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply. TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research environment of the Greater Munich Area. The TUM environment is multicultural, with English serving as a common interface for scientific interaction.
The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. The MDCO assists the relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accompanying family members.

Your Application
TUM is an equal opportunity employer and explicitly encourages applications from women. The position is suitable for disabled persons. Disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications and scientific performance as other candidates will be given preference. Application documents should be submitted in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System are available at www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting. Here you will also find TUM’s information on collecting and processing personal data as part of the application process.

Please send your application no later than February 15, 2021 to the Dean of the department of chemistry, Prof. Stephan Sieber. Email address for applications: dekanat@ch.tum.de.
