At the University of Bremen the Institute of Sociology in the
Department of Social Sciences invites applications for the

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in
empirical research in the field of transformation of contemporary
societies from a sociological perspective. Applicants
with research interests in areas such as social inequalities,
welfare state, political economy, and expertise in agent- and
institution-based cross-national comparative research are
particularly welcome.
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and
graduate courses at the Department of Social Sciences and
Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences
(BIGSSS). The candidate is expected to demonstrate a
strong commitment to obtain external research funding
individually as well as participate in current joint research
initiatives in the scope of a well-established interdisciplinary
cooperation in the thematic field of Social Inequalities and
Social Policy.
Salary grade W3 or W2 depends upon personal work
experience. The aspired salary grade should be mentioned in
the cover letter.
This position requires a PhD degree in Social Sciences as
well as further scientific achievements (
Habilitation or
equivalent). Excellent proficiency in English, communication
skills, and the willingness to engage in continuous education
in didactics are expected. Experience in applying the gender
perspective in research and teaching is welcome. Teaching
experience at a university and pedagogic-didactic suitability
are expected. Non-German applicants should be prepared to
learn the language and teach in German within a couple of
years.
