Professorship (W3)
»Theory and History of Art«
The university is seeking an individual who, in addition to having graduated with a university degree in a relevant field, has a qualifying doctoral degree and a »habilitation« post-doctoral degree, or has held a junior professor position or has pursued (habilitation-equivalent post-doctoral) academic work. Pedagogical skills and university teaching experience in the relevant subject area, as well as outstanding publications and success in acquiring third-party funding are also required. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar strongly values student supervision and instructors are expected to be regularly present at the University. The candidate is expected to be able to teach courses in both German and English and to participate in departmental activities and university management.
The »Theory and History of Art« professorship is part of the Scientific Disciplines of the Faculty of Art and Design. The successful candidate is expected to impart the theoretical and historical foundations of art, including relevant perspectives of aesthetic and material production, and methodological knowledge; they will also be expected to contextualise contemporary artistic practices and strategies in their teaching and research. The position is intended to develop novel and substantial perspectives in specified areas of art theory and history, and to channel relevant connections to curatorial and institutional art practice. International networks and the acquisition of third-party funding within the context of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and collaboration projects is expected. The professorship will teach undergraduate and graduate elective courses, including lectures and seminars, and theses. Furthermore, it will promote and supervise advise doctoral projects and will strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation and initiatives in both teaching and research.
These general requirements pertain to § 84 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (ThürHG). If the requirements are met and the position is filled on a full-time basis, the successful candidate will be employed as a civil servant.
