SOCIOLOGY OF TECHNOLOGY AND
(Technik- und Umweltsoziologie)
We are looking for someone who is a recognized expert in the social sciences with an expertise in the sociology of technology and environmental sociology. The successful candidate will not only be an outstanding researcher, but also an inspirational lecturer.
The position holder is expected to conduct research in the relevant fields of the sociology of technology and environmental sociology and to contribute to the research focus of the University. The research may focus on one of the following themes and their importance for the environment:
Formation conditions of technical systems and artefacts
Theories and models of socio-technical developments
Governance of complex socio-technical systems
The University is looking for a researcher whose work explores systematically the area of sociology of technology and environmental sociology, with a particular emphasis on the intersections of both fields.
The postholder should have a proven record of outstanding research as evidenced by internationally and nationally excellent journal publications or with leading book publishers and a proven track record in successfully bidding for external funding in relevant research and/or policy areas.
Evidence of a profile as an externally recognised authority with an established national and emerging international reputation in the field of sociology of technology and environmental sociology.
Candidates should have experience in forging and conducting interdisciplinary research, particularly within the field of natural and technical sciences.
Internationalization is a high priority for the BTU. It is desirable that candidates have an established track of international research and teaching experience.
It is expected, that candidates have appropriate experience in more than one of the abovementioned fields of research and are willing to participate in joint research projects with other departments of the faculty and the university and to continue current research activities of the department. Industrial experience is an advantage.
The chairholder is responsible for delivering advanced and introductory core and elective modules in German and English at Bachelor and Master level and as part of different Bachelor- and Master programs, with an emphasis on the Culture and Technology program.
It is expected that the modules delivered by the successful candidate will be eligible to students from other disciplines as well, particular students from the engineering and environmental sciences. It is desirable that the candidate contributes to the specific research focus areas of the University and possesses outstanding pedagogical and higher education teaching skills. Ability to work in a team and outstanding social skills are essential.
Other duties result from the requirements set by § 42 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg - BbgHG) in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG. Please refer to §§ 41 paragraph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for prerequisites and conditions of employment. Experience in the acquisition and realization of third-party funded projects is expected. Fields of research should be relevant for the DFG (German Research Foundation) or similar international research funding organizations. Lectures are primarily to be held in German, fluency in English is expected.
