The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching.
The newly founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health on the University of Bayreuth's Kulmbach Campus is currently seeking to appoint a
Professor of Food Law (full professorship)
at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 6,683 euros) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.
The applicant should cover German, European and International Food Law in both research and teaching. Food law should be treated from a public law
perspective (focusing in particular on aspects such as food safety, risk prevention, official controls, substances, regulation, health law) and/or
from a private law perspective (focusing in particular on aspects such as consumer law, contracts, liability - including references to health law -,
competition law and possibly intellectual property); the faculty plans to establish a second food law professorship, which is complementary to the
first one, at a later time.
Active participation in the development of the new Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health is expected. This also includes the conception
and establishment of new, interdisciplinary B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes such as the M.Sc. "Food Quality and Safety". The aim is to recruit an academic
who can contribute to linking law research with food and health sciences thanks to his or her qualifications and research orientation. The applicant
should participate in joint research projects combining food and health sciences, law, and economics. Experience in working with scientists is an advantage.
The applicant should also have an interest in the special orientation of Bayreuth's Department of Law; an affiliation with the University of Bayreuth's
Faculty of Law, Business & Economics is possible.
The ability to teach in English is required as a large number of the faculty's courses will be offered in English. International applicants must be ready
and willing to teach in German within three years.
