in research and teaching. The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is currently
seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Ecological Microbiology (pay grade: W3)
starting in April 2019. This is a permanent civil service position.
We are seeking a candidate with an excellent track-record in internationally recognized research and proven teaching experience
in the field of microbial ecology. The ideal candidate will employ modern experimental, and in particular molecular approaches
to study a prominent aspect of research in the ecology of prokaryotic microorganisms. The successful candidate is expected to
complement and strengthen the existing focus areas ”Ecology and Environmental Sciences“ and ”Molecular
Biosciences“, represented by the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER) and the Bayreuth
Center for Molecular Biosciences (BZMB), respectively. He / She will contribute to teaching in microbiology and microbial
ecology at basic and advanced levels within the bachelor and master programs of Biology and Geoecology.
Requirements for this position (in accordance with Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, a doctoral
degree, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), and proven excellence in teaching. Alternatively evidence of equivalent
scholarly achievement for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment will also be considered. The ability to
teach in English and German is expected. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article
10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
