The advertisement is addressed to excellent materials scientists and engineers with outstanding scale bridging knowledge. Materials science based fundamentals shall be made usable numerically and experimentally for technological applications as well as for the realisation of highly efficient and resources conserving structures and components.
The applicant shall cover one or more of the following topics in research and teaching:
Theoretical, simulation based and experimentally accompanied and validated research of structure‐property‐relationships of modern, especially metallic high‐performance, functional and composite materials
Scale bridging modelling of materials behaviour from the microscale up to macroscale description for relevant application areas in materials technology
Simulation of micromechanical processes of materials manufacturing, microstructure formation and evolution to the point of deformation and failure of conventional and additively manufactured materials
Numerical evaluation of integrity and safety of thermal and mechanically highly loaded components under special appreciation of aspects of material technology
Integration of modern data based approaches and of AI methods for the identification and simulation of complex materials behaviour
The person to be hired is expected to be integrated into the manifold and diverse research landscape of the University of Stuttgart. That includes especially the Materials Testing Institute (MPA), which provides experimental methods on all technical length scales, as well as the Stuttgart Centre SimTech, which pushes faculty overlapping the development of scale bridging numerical methods. Cooperation opportunities are provided by further research clusters, institutes and graduation colleges which investigate the materials science fundamentals or/and the scientific engineering applications for modern polymers, ceramics and fibre reinforced materials.
In teaching the applicant shall con vey the topic of materials technology and the fundamentals of strength of materials for students in mechanical engineering, related study courses, medical techniques as well as the English master program Commas in width and depth. The classes of German‐language lectures have to be taught in German.
The faculty is interested in applicants which have published in high ranked international journals, with success in third‐party funding and who are familiar with German and English teaching.
