PROFESSORSHIP W3 IN THE FIELD OF TECHNICAL MICROBIOLOGY

TUHH is looking for an internationally recognized personality who represents the field of Technical Microbiology and the corresponding institute with a high degree of commitment
in research and teaching as an integral member of bioprocess engineering at the TUHH. The position is to be filled in February 2021. The research focus should be dedicated to the
microbial and molecular biology fundamentals of biosynthesis and biocatalysis with a high relevance to application. In-depth expertise in one or more of the following research areas is desirable:
Microbiological basis for the industrial use of renewable raw materials or environmentally hazardous waste (for example microplastics, food waste, exhaust fumes, ...)
Fundamentals of the technical use of microbial communities including microbial diversity
Molecular optimization of biocatalysis with whole cells and enzymes
Development of new carbon and energy sources (such as CO2, CO, CH4 and H2) for biosynthesis
Microbiological basis for electrochemical biosynthesis
Establishment of artificial metabolic pathways / reaction cascades in vivo and in vitro (synthetic micro- and molecular biology) that are relevant for biomanufacturing.
Close interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues at TUHH and Hamburg's major research institutions and industry to realize the vision of bio-based solutions for a sustainable
future is expected, particularly in respect of biosynthesis and biocatalysis with whole cells or enzymes up to technical scale and the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence
in technical microbiology and biotechnology.
The area of responsibility of the professorship includes participation in teaching in the Bachelor and Master Degree programs, especially the programs in Biochemical and Bioprocess
Engineering with basic and advanced lectures as well as laboratories in German and English. We therefore expect high motivation and a great commitment in teaching.
